This Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye Whiskey is made by taking Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Rye at barrel strength and finishing it in a second barrel. These finishing barrels are made from 24 month air-dried staves. The barrels were toasted, not charred. As the rye whiskey is bottled at cask strength, the proof will vary. On average, it is 108 proof. This limited release is hitting shelves beginning September 2017.
Nose: Cinnamon buns (with icing), oily walnuts, cardamom seed, and sticky brown sugar caramelized in a pan.
Palate: Nutty at first, with almond and hazelnut, shortly followed by nutmeg, honeycomb, and just a pinch of BBQ smoke.
Finish: Rum-soaked dates, drying oak-y spice, and dark chocolate.
